Solidarity

Bees, Land, and Liberation is an international beekeeping collective, formed of beekeepers, farmers, artists, academics, acting towards the liberation of the Palestinian people in alliance with bees. The human-bee relationships in Palestine are age-old. And beekeeping is an integral part of the complex ontological and ecological fabric of Palestine. But today, only 600 of 29,000 beehives present in Gaza remains, that is 97.9% of the total beehives killed by Isreal. The West Bank is also under attack, with over 10,000 beehives destroyed since 2023. Despite the current genocide, honey remains a sought after addition to tea, sweets, and used as a remedy for illnesses. Palestinian beekeepers also harvest products like bee venom, propolis, and wax, contributing to home remedies that address physical and mental health issues. To keep bees thus becomes a form of resistance against US-Israeli oppressors. Concretely, Bees, Land, and Liberation coordinates mutual aid for beekeepers, farmers, and Palestinians on the ground. We are working with an incredible collective based in Palestine, the US, and the UK to explore what it looks like for beekeepers globally to support beekeepers in Palestine in the name of collective liberation.
